Style on a shoestring...

My nan raised 8 children on very little money and she always looked amazing! And in her seventies she still does!!

She always wears wonderful colours and fab jewellery. I get fed up with the large amount of black people wear these days!

She taught my mum, and then me how to hunt out the best bargains... here she is in a charity shop bought outfit.

Me and my super stylish Nan!

Confessions of a Vintage Loving Librarian...

I am an extremely organised, list writing, colour coordinating labels, files and folder loving librarian. But I have a deep dark secret... there is a little part of my life which regularly descends into chaos... I just can't seem to keep it organised...

Welcome to my Powder Room...

I am a very lucky girl who is fortunate enough to have a whole room for all my lovely clothes and shoes and little vintage knick knacks. But despite having a very large room I still can't seem to fit it all in... at the start of the year I was a little stressed and it all started to go a little downhill...

 EEEEKKKK!!!

SHOCK HORROR!!!

After nearly breaking my neck wading through the mountains of stuff  I decided enough was enough and got doing some serious sorting. I have now got a room which is almost tidy and I can actually get dressed in there now! Its lovely to be able to find things again! :)

I still need to work out better shoe storage, at the moment they are in the hideous green tubs! But I am getting there.

Welcome to the Vintage Loving Librarians Dressing/Powder Room....

Spring/Summer clothes on the rails, autumn/winter are vac packed and safely tucked away!
 Art Deco dressing table.
 Vase of hair flowers.
Lots and lots of lovely vintage bags.
 Hats, hats, hats!
 Knick knack shelf.
 Vintage suitcases full of accessories.
HIDEOUS green boxes but full of BEAUTIFUL shoes!
Drawers and vintage radio.

All this is stopped off with lots and lots of Audrey Hepburn pictures and one of Marilyn!

I just have a small mountain of stuff to list on Ebay now! :)

Well that's Monday done - Hoorah!

Have a lovely week! xx

Rock a bye Roddy...

I have had a fab bank holiday weekend spending time with my Mum and Nan and we have done a whole lot of bargain hunting from charity shops, car boot sales and antique stores.

We have started getting things for my vintage/rockabilly style wedding next year... exciting stuff... but also managed to pick up a few bargains to enjoy now!

 Rocking chair £3
Roddy loves it... it took him a minute to get used to the rocking motion when he jumped up!
Kidney shape side table.... this was on our friends parents stall and they gave it to me for free... but I felt bad and so gave them a £1 - how generous of me, lol!

My nan bought me the peacock vase.

Hope you have all had a lovely bank holiday if you're here in the UK and if not hope you had fab weekends all round!

Itsy, Bitsy....

Teenie weenie.... Hens!!

Friday the 13th was a very unlucky day. One of our little bantam hens did not come home and our neighbour found her dead in her garden... its only a hen but we were rather heartbroken! :(

We were very worried about the little one left getting bullied by the big ones, so on Sunday my lovely beau took me to choose another bantam to keep her company.

We were only getting one...

Then we spotted a lovely little trio... 2 hens and a cockerel. We were offered the hens and the cock would have gone to the pot... well, we couldn't do it! So we took the little trio and set off to find another hen house as you can't have two men living together, Typical, huh!! ;P

Introducing...

Clint, Itsy and Bitsy;

 Itsy
Bitsy

And here's Clint. The cockerels always fight to work out who is boss and one must back down and walk away. Despite being about a third of the size of Elvis, Clint had a good ol' go... But Elvis is still the King!!

No chickens were harmed during this photography... well there was some blood but they are both fine now!!

Hope you didn't suffer any ill luck on the 13th!!

Ta ta for now xx

A sorry, some sardines and some toast...

I am sorry I haven't been around much lately, I have been a bit overwhelmed with everything in life and have been very much focusing on plodding on through.

Good news is I have sorted out some stressful elements of life  and am focusing on enjoying the summer.

So after enjoying some sardines on toast I thought it was about time I did a little blogging... I have missed you blogosphere!

I have been very busy planting up the garden and the allotment....

Goodies nearly ready to plant out...
Here's the fabric of the dress i am currently making. Its nearly finished so you will get to see the completed projected shortly!

I hope your all well and I look forward to lots more posts and to catch up on all my favourite blogs out there!

One mans junk is another mans treasure...

My fella's rugby club were using this bag as part of their 'Doris of the Day' outfit. You do something daft during a game you have to dress up an as old lady. I have of course rescued it!!

My Grandad bought this picture but my Nan has never really liked it. She was very pleased to hand it over.
It's made entirely of shells. There is a message on the back, someone made this as a gift.
He bought it at a jumble sale!
Hope you all had a good day!

Keep Calm and Carry On...

You know when you get those times when 101 small things go wrong and after while it gets you down? Well I am having a phase like that at the moment. I have definitely fallen out of favour with ol' lady luck... at times like these all you can do is focus on the small pleasures in life, 'Keep Calm and Carry On'

Tea - the remedy for all ailments (that's Elvis's legs sticking out the bottom!)

Daffodils!!

Curly kale too big for the fridge

New flowers in the hanging basket and washing on the line
I have put this by the front to remind me to keep on plodding... things will get better!

Faith and Fate...

I am a great believer in fate. If you have a little faith (of any kind) and try to have patience things usually have a way of working out....

Recently I have had a dilemma with my dogs.
There is a big age gap between my two dogs and my Collie is getting old and very sadly has a big tumour. It is currently not adversely affecting him but every day we have is a blessing.
Plus he is getting a bit old and grumpy; he is more keen on the sofa than country walks!

My little Jack Russell Roddy on the other hand is a little pocket rocket who loves nothing better than charging about the countryside!

So I wanted more company for Roddy and company for him for when Buddy leaves us. I would not be able face getting a dog soon after he has gone, I'd feel like I was trying to replace him.

So my partner and I have talked and ummed and aaahd, unsure what to do for the best; what breed? What size? When? A puppy? etc etc

Then fate stepped in.
We were down the pub having a leisurely Sunday afternoon pint and met a man with a dog... needing a home....

And so we have given that dog a home and now I am the proud mummy of this lovely German Shepard bitch, Effy. Shes a year old and a little treasure!

She has been passed pillar to post, and has been mistreated at some point. It makes me so sad, how could you not love this face??!!

Unless you are one of my chickens... she gave chase. They now hate her!
